Now days, social media plays great role to promote your business services/products and also provide quality back links to your website. It would be great if you use social media more efficiently then you will not get only back links but also great social media exposure.

There are more much more important things than links to your site for SEO. This includes frequency of desired keyword terms, location of those keyword terms, types of media used such as if you are using videos and photos that are properly labeled, etc.

But links are very important in their own right. I have found that the best way to have blogs and other sites linking to your content is to use the right headlines and titles that enable them to find your site (kind of circular I know) but when I changed a headline of a story that I was trying to increase the traffic to, it received over 40 pingbacks instantly from other sites linking to that page.

I use Google's Adwords Keyword tool mostly (http://bit.ly/QoHDkU) to get the traffic per month for certain terms and closely related terms and try to find ways to include the most trafficked per month in my title and related content.

Creating more links and content on your site and having them all connected is another way to increase search engine relevance without having to go around asking for others to link to your site. It comes naturally.

Hope this helps.

One of the best ways to get inbound links is to create useful content for sites other than yours and include your link.

For example, write articles for some of the article directories like ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com. The articles need to be informational, as opposed to salesy, and end with a resource box that includes your link.

You can use a similar strategy with blogs by providing guest blog posts to blogs in your field. Again, the post must be informational in nature and include a link back to your site.

Also seek out directories that would be a fit for your business. An example might be your chamber of commerce that features local companies and will welcome your profile and link.

Obtaining links needs to be an ongoing process. Keep in mind though, that it's only one of many strategies that must be employed to have a positive effect on your search engine ranking.

Hi Carrie,

Obtaining backlinks seems to be tricky unless the website is designed abiding the rules of search engines. Having the website developed and optimized in a better way accordingly, your website is to get with the backlinks as expected.

Following with the quality promotions will bring in more links for sure. In turn, your web content would also help to acquire the link bait. Despite this, there are many websites being dropped down to the rankings and with the backlinks, though they are to develop and design the site as per search engine's rules.

So, to stay ahead of such irrelevancies it'd be better to follow the organic way of promotion than preferring any software or so to raise the number of links. Ethical way of promotion would be the same say,
- article marketing, blog posting and commenting, participating in active discussions and so on.

Still there are other possibilities that can drive more traffic to the site, say as Hemant quoted, social media is been fair with the intention of getting popularized and in branding too. So, hoping for the best, along with SEO, Social media still plays an active lead in acquiring back links to the website, I suppose.

If you prefer creating artistic content over written content, creating and sharing infographics can be a great way to get links to your website. Infographics have really taken off in the past few years, and they've proven to be a great branding and linking resource.

Here's an article on free tools you can use to create infographics: http://greatinternetfax.com/create-infographics-for-free/

Having content that's worth linking to. Everything else is just gaming the system really. Shortcuts.

If you don't have content, then you need a business that people love. It's a short book, and not really about link building but I'd recommend and that's Seth Godwin's Purple Cow.

You need to have a product or service worth linking to. Do your customers LOVE your product or service? If not, I'd start my research on how to build amazing service, high quality, or whatever your magic is that make people naturally link to you "hey check this out".

That's how you build an enduring business - that gets lots of links.

Best of luck,

Google's job is to find and serve up relevant and authentic content.

The best way to increase your website's visibility is to:
1. Put it in a form that Google understands (i.e. WordPress)
2. Update it consistently with relevant and authentic content

Anything else falls in the category of shortcuts and tricks, which won't fool Google for very long.

I find it easier (and more profitable) to serve up consistent, relevant, authentic content in a Google-friendly form. My traffic is up ten-fold over the past several months using this approach, and there are no links to my website.

The other thing to be sure of, I mean really sure of, is that you have a clear, targeted, simple call to action on your landing page so that when traffic does get there you actually do something with it. All the traffic and SEO in the world is no use if you're not converting visitors to customers.

Well, the first thing to be aware of is that Google is constantly adjusting its search engine algorithm in an attempt to serve up the best websites and most relevant results to searchers. There is something that is being called the Unnatural Links update, and it is turning the SEO world upside down.

So the quality of the links should be good, or else you are just making an effort to harm your website.

Carrie,

In our best selling book, I describe the best way to get links to your own main website as the Universe Model of Social Media Marketing.

Think of your website as The Sun. Brightest and most energetic of all. All energy must point to your sun.

Then think about other key sites as Planets surrounding your sun. Planets have content about you but are not where you transactions take place. Planets are places like YouTube, Facebook, Hubpages, and lots of other sites (including lots of other video sites to where you syndicate your videos). All of them need links pointing to your sun. Even mosiacHUB is a planet! And I'm sure you already have a link on here pointing to your main website, your sun!

Then think of other sites that can point to your planets and/or your sun as Stars. Such places are Twitter. You can post on Twitter about your latest YouTube video (and then have YouTube pointing to your Sun) AND you can Tweet about something directly on your sun.

Just be sure not to point BACK from your sun to your planets or stars - "circular motion" like that tells Google all you're doing is setting up links and don't really have any real content on your sun.

So yes... it takes LOTS of content, so I'll stop so you can get busy. But that is the BEST way.

comment on sites and blogs that have huge traffic.. If you leave site link by commenting on something famous and "good", it generates a good link to your site. And your search engine ranking will improve. The more you are connected to better websites the more your site's reputation increases in the Google bots 'eyes'.
